Who, you may ask, is Mo Willems? He is the funniest children's author/illustrator that I have read in a long time! I LOVE his books and Lawton thinks they are the funniest thing! They are so expressive (who, me, loves expressiveness? hmmm.) and you just can't help but giggle at the story lines, the characters, and their expressive expressions. :)
I first discovered Mo one night when Chad and I were on a rare date or Christmas shopping or something and we were perusing some children's books at Davis Kidd. We came across Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale and read the entire thing cover to cover, laughing out loud in the bookstore.

Poor Trixie takes her Knuffle Bunny (or lovey in our house) to the laundromat with her Dad. Somehow Knuffle Bunny gets left at the laundromat, and she tries to communicate to her dad that her beloved Bunny is lost, while going boneless trying to convey her deep despair. If your child has a lovey and it has ever been lost, you can totally relate. Being reminded of this, I just bought Carolina a back-up lovey last week just in case hers ever gets (gasp) LOST. I am sad that I do not own this precious book.
I can't wait to get my hands on this book, Knuffle Bunny Too. I'm sure it is just as funny.
We checked out The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog the other week at the library. I'm not sure how many times we have already read it, but it still is cracking me up. (it doesn't take a whole lot, though.)
Chad brought this one home for Lawton from a book fair at his school. There is an entire Elephant and Piggie series, but this is the only one we have read thus far. Cute, but not as cute as the other ones I have mentioned. Can you tell I love children's books? I have a problem, I know. Which reminds me . . . :)
I am hosting an Usborne book show at my house this Thursday night, October 16, with my sister as the Usborne rep. She has just started selling them about a month or so ago and is doing great. The books are awesome - I have done two shows before - and love them! They are the most well made books and have so many different options. You can see a post I did about them before here. If you want to check them out at the website, click here. If you really, really love them, you can go to the e-show, or if you're local and want to come, email me at chadandlaurabeth@yahoo.com and I'll send you the details. . .
Here are a few books that Santa is thinking about bringing Lawton and Carolina. (Carolina has to have some girlie books, right? :)

i LOVE kevin henkes! especially the mouse books- chrysanthemum, wemberly worried, owen, lily's purple plastic purse, julius the baby of the world, etc.
Abby love the Fancy Nancy and Pink/Purplicious books - Carolina will probably love them in a few years if she is a girly girl. Thanks for telling me about Mo. I will be on the lookout for those! I agree, Usborne books are awesome, too. Very well made with great illustrations.
I am a fan of Rosemary Wells (Max and Ruby books), David Shannon's pirate books, Karen Katz, and my all time fave is Sandra Boynton. I will look at the Mo books soon.
If you love Mo Willems and you have not read "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!" you need to read it. I read it to my kindergarten class all the time and they just love it. It keeps them laughing and then we have to read it again and again.
